If I had to describe myself, it would be in a word that has many meanings with a complexity which falls off the tongue.
A word made up of many elements, is deceptive in appearance, and creates an illusion from the imagination.
My word would be Phantasmagoric. ~Summer Ross

Five Sentence Friday

Okay, I admit it. Stop twisting my arm. I stole the sentence idea from some else. I saw it on Facebook and wanted to do something similar.

Writing Nightmare

You would think after writing the first draft, the rest would come naturally. All the material is there. But no, my writing nightmare came to life last week...

5 ways to use writing as an excuse

5. Did you say something? Sorry, I was busy listening to characters tell me what they needed to do next.

4. Someone else has to do the housework because I’m busy trying to have a writing career.

Movie review: Dark Shadows

I went and saw the movie Dark Shadows on Mother's day. Depp didn't disappoint in the level of strange and unusual characters he enjoys taking the roll of and I truly think the vampire Barnabas matches Depp just as much.

Tuesday Teaser

I have been anticipating this book all semester! It toyed with me for the last month because I had homework so I couldn't read it. I'm just now getting the chance.

Title: A Perfect Blood
Author: Kim Harrison
Teaser:
"No friggin' way!" I exclaimed as the last of the FIB crew left. "You can't see the patch of new concrete? It's right there!"
Ivy and Nina came over and looked down, but I could tell they couldn't see it, even Jenks walked right over the seam, spilling a faint hint of dust. "There's a patch of new concrete!" I said, pointing down. "Right there! It's about three by four. You can't see it?"  (pg 149)

First loves blogfest entry

Alex is hosting the First Loves Blogfest today.

The rules: Four loves one blogfest

Entry:

First movie: Nightmare on Elm Street.
I can't explain why, but Freddy Crugar has always been great to me.

First song: Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler.
My Mother had me listen to this song when I was young, and it's been in my heart ever since.

First Book: "Little Women"
I remember reading this book beside a campfire during the summer out with my family. Though I don't actually remember how old I was.

First Person: Ryan Norris
We dated for one year in 6th grade. He broke it off with me in a grueling scene. He died a few years ago in a motor cycle accident.

Cold Magic

I found a new genre to read and write in -Steampunk. Two weeks ago, I knew nothing about it and now I have written several short pieces related to the genre just to try it on for size and read two books.

The one I am currently reading is called Cold Magic by Kate Elliot.
I was surprised at how in depth the plot and characters are, I haven't been able to put it down. If you are interested in magic mixed in era of Victorian like charm with some science fiction on the side, I'd highly recommend reading this book. I'll be buying the rest of the trilogy as soon as I can. I'm fascinated by this authors writing style and truly impressed.

Jade Coterie

It's Friday and I have a treat. Today I wanted to share some details about my new novel. But first I'm four days into the story-a-day challenge and I have completed four short stories. I'm very happy with my outcome thus far. Now for juicy details.

This is the novel I will be revising over the coming Summer.

My new novel- The Jade Coterie

Summary:
Ebony Graves has one desire, to be a Jade in the elite courtesan group the Jade Coterie. She must complete three tests that challenge her abilities. Losing even one of these competitions means dismissal back into the hands of her abusive father. Her ex-best friend, Aurora, is out to make sure she not only loses the competition but also Kaige Donovan. When her Rune magic awakens there is only one rule, the magic doesn't work on people she loves.

Character quotes from chapters inside the book:

Ebony Graves- "It's not over until Leo roars. I'm still in this challenge." From chapter 19

Richard Graves- "Keep in mind daughter that you will fail and have nowhere to go but home." From Chapter 16

Lyla Conner- "He’s just a man Ebony. You are strong and you have magic." From Chapter 17

Aurora Craven- "Magic? Forgive me if my eyes don’t widen in fear or my knees don’t shake." From chapter 19

Pearl Graves- "She acts as if she’s never seen a ghost. I can’t blame her for fainting because of my beauty. I find I’m well intact for a ghost.” From chapter 18

Kaige Donovan- "Oh I mind dear lady. I rather like the idea of watching you blush."  From chapter 9

Story a day

Inspiration drops from the sky like sleet, I can catch it and mold it into something new or let it splat to the ground with a sickening thud my muse finds horrendous.

I'm two days into the Story-A-Day in May challenge and find that I'm inspired to write more than I was last year when I took part. I'm trying out a new genre- Steam Punk. I'll let you know later how it goes, but I find myself fascinated by the idea of Victorian age plus science fiction and adding in elements that make the story apart of me.
See you all Friday with updates on a great many things-

Update

Today is only the beginning. Despite the hardships of being a single mom, college student, and volunteer at two separate jobs, I graduate May 10th with my BA in English. I also managed to write an entire novel, but I'll tell you about that in another post.

I'm not fully back- but I'm close. I wanted to give a brief update, let you all know that I'm still around and writing.

I also want to thank all of you for sticking with me- despite my long absent.

The plan:

I missed you all so much, I'll be back as soon as I complete my last final for classes. I'll be posting and trying to catch up on what I've missed.

I am taking on the challenge of writing a short story every day in May.

Over the summer I will begin my extensive revision on my new novel.

With that said I leave you to your day. I'm looking forward to being back full time.

I heart comments~~ You all Rock my world!
